a. Note:   Oxfordshire Branches I - IF 2.(1) It appears, almost certain, in view of the dates, that this is the John who had a wife, Alice, was the eldest son of Richard, born about 1535/6. He was the executor of his father's will in 1558. Owing to a gap in the registers neither his marriage nor the birth of his eldest son have been traced; but from the will of his son William it is known that John died before 1614, and that he left a will which has not survived.
  Postscript.
  There were several John Elkintons about this period, and a prior one with a wife named Alice.
