Note: Notes from ML correspondence RE: Margaret Knickerbocker Family said that William Coffey married Margaret Knickerbocker when she was only 12 years old (this was ca 1854 and probably in Livingston Co MI). William and Margaret had 4 children: Abel, Henry, Emma, and Charles. Margaret died in Handy, Livingston County, Michigan on April 2, 1866. According to an affidavit written by a nephew of William, Williamand Margaret moved to Illinois before the Civil War. He listed his residence as Roberts, Illinois. Three of their children were born in Illinois, so Margaret had to be close by while he served in the Army. After William was discharged, July 5, 1865 at Indianapolis Indiana, they returned to Handy, Livingston County, Michigan, where Margaret died. William moved to Sidney, Montcalm County so his sister, Adeline Pinkney, (another name I'm researching) could take care of his four children. I have been told that Margaret was buried in the Coffey Cemetery in Webberville, Michigan. Ernest Coffey b 1885 is Marcia's grandfather. William Coffey Sr had light hair, blue eyes and was 6 feet tall. William Coffey (h/o Margaret Knickerbocker) md 2nd to Emma Mesler on 29 Mar 1868 in Sidney, Montcalm Co MI. William was s/o Samuel Coffey.
