 Champaign Co IL 16 May 1884 personally appeared William Knickerbocker age 50, resident of Newcomb, Champaign Co IL; identical William Knickerbocker who entered service on or abot 16 Aug 1862 as Private Co K 1st regt ILL Lt Art, commanded by John H Calvin; discharged at Springfield IL 16 Aug 1865 at expiration of term of service. Age 50; height 5' 5" dark complexion, light hair, hazel eyes. In the line of duty "near Knoxville" Tennessee, spring of 1864 "was trampled upon by mules injuring his right side. Same time and place he contracted asthma from exposure; not treated in Hospital. He has not been in the military otherwise. Since leaving the service he has resided in "different counties, in the state of Illinois," and his occupation has been farmer. He is now partly disabled. His PO address is Mahomet, Champaign Co IL. Signed William Knickerbocker. Witnesses James R Hastings, J F Wooley. Witness James R Hastings residence Somer Tp (Urbana PO); Witness J F Wooley residence: Mahomet -- both were present and saw him sign his name.

To February 28, 1863 same Report. March & April 1863, absent on Det. Duty. To December 3, 1863 same report. Transferred to Colbis Indpt Batty Ills Lght Arty he is reported Jan & Feb 1864 present. March & April same report. Returns for March and May 1864 do not report him absent. Roll for May & June 1864 reports him present. To April 30, 1865 same report. Transferred to Comp. K 1st Ills Lght Arty, he was mustered out with that Comp. June 19, 1865, at Springfield, Ills. a Private.

 K 1st Ill Lt Art Crawford Co KS 21 Sept 1897 Christina Knickerbocker personally appeared and declares that she is the lawful widow of William Knickerbocker, deceased; that he died 9 Sept 1897. She was married to William Knickerbocker 27 April 1889 Newcomb, Champaign Co IL; that her name before said marriage was Christina Fenters. Her residence is Lincoln Twp, Neosho Co KS, and her post office address is McCune, Crawford Co KS. She signed the application with an "X." Also, personally appeared W E Gregg residing at McCune KS, and Charles Knickerbocker residing at Lincoln Twp, Neosho Co KS --- they witnessed Christina Knickerbocker (make her mark); they also declare that they know her to be the lawful widow of William Knickerbocker, who died 9 Sept 1897.... they "have seen their marriage certificate know they lived together as husband and wife and were at the cemetery the day William Knickerbocker was "burried." W E Gregg, Charles Knickerbocker (signed by mark), and John Miller signed the application on 21 Sept 1897.
 -----Declaration for widow's pension Crawford Co KS 30 Sept 1897, personally appeared, Christina Knickerbocker, aged 75 yrs, resident of Lincoln Twp, Neosho Co KS; she declares she is the widow of William Knickerbocker who enlisted 17 Aug 1862 as a Private Co K 1st Regt Illinois Light artillery; he was honorably discharged 19 June 1865 and died 9 Sept 1897. That she was married under the name of Christina Fenters to said William Knickerbocker on 27 April 1889, by F B Sale, minister, at Necomb, Illinois. She had been previously married "To Lancaster Fenters who died in Champaign County, Ills June 5, 1880. William Knickerbocker was married to Louise Hicks who died in Marshall County Illinois July 5, 1882." Christina also declared that she has not remarried since the death of William Knickerbocker, and that he left no children under the age of 16. She appoints H M Ford of McCune KS as her attorney to prosecute her claim. Her post office address is McCune, Crawford Co KS. She signed her name with an "X."
 Witnesses: William Slaughter, John H Hammel. William Slaughter, resident of Island KS and John H Hammel resident of Island KS, were present and saw Christina Knickerbocker make her mark; they also declare that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and an acquaintance with her of 25 years and 21 years, repectively, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be; and they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
