a. Note:   Calton Merry was born in Belmont County, Ohio on September 27, 1817 and died June 27, 1878. The older Merry immigrated from the State of New York to Belmont County in the spring of 1817. The journey was made by wagon and consisted of nine children. Rufus, Rouse, Benson, Calton, Samantha, Maranda, Amanda, Betsey and Hannah, all born in New York State excepting Calton. Ambrose died in 1864 at the age of 94. Calton married Elizabeth Weekley on August 11, 1836, daughter of Benjamin Weekley. They had eleven children, Mary, Margaret, Sally, Josephus, Andrew J., Abby, Levi D., Ada, Maria, Jacob M. and Benjamin H. Elizabeth Weekley died February 21, 1863 and in 1864, Calton married Mrs. Isabella McWilliams which with he had two children, Rufus E. and William D. Of Calton�s children, five were teachers, Levi D., Ada, Maria, William D., and Jacob M. Andrew J. was a member of Co. G, 176th Volunteer Infantry and died June 23, 1865. Levi D. a county surveyor, married Sue L. Neyman of Senacaville. Levi Devolld helped incorporate the Noble County Agricultural Society organized in 1852.
