Some of Rebecca’s descendents still live in Gibson County. By the 1860 census, three more children were born (David, 1851; Francis, 1854; and James, 1857). 2391David HASTE 30M . Farmer . William Haste, Jr., was a professor of languages at the Laneview school in 1901 . The Haste family was and still is very active in Salem Baptist Church. “One of the founding members of Salem Church was David Haste. From the beginning, he had been faithful and strong. He had served as deacon and on a high percentage of the committees. In December 1861 David Haste surrendered to preach and was licensed to preach at that time. He was ordained in May 1863 and in November 1863 was asked to take the pastoral care of the church for the year of 1864. The only reference to the Civil War [in the church records] came in April of that year when there was “no conference owing to the arrest of our pastor by the Confederate authorities.” David Haste and another deacon signed a deed for a plot of land to build a “B.” church. That acre of land belonged to William Varner. Here is the deed: Book O Page 500 William Varner To Deed Trustee B. Church Registered March 13, 1852 I Wm.
