a. Note:   It says on the Birth Certificate that she was born at 5.30, half an hour after her brother Hillary. However her story was that they were making a fuss over the son and heir when the 'goner', as the doctor had described her, set up a wail and was quite clearly with them. Her grandmother, Jane Hillary, had resusitated her. It was decided that their mother was not well enough to care for both of them, so Mary was raised by her aunts and uncle. This would bias their father into making Hillary first and Mary second.
