a. Note:   ived there until their deaths. John worked in the lumber business with his father and brother. In 1920 he was one of three men to set out the first peach orchards in Ellerbe. the other peach growers were J.H. McRae and John S. Sugg. His orchard was located one mile west of Ellerbe on the road that was Grassy Island Road and is now names Page Street Extension. Harris McRae a peach broker in the Ellerbe area stated that "John Lentz grew the best peach in the Sandhills and that buyers on the northern markets specifically asked for his peaches." The Lentzes were in the peach orchard business for 35 years. John built a store building in Ellerbe in 1920 which is still in use. John and Laura had two Children.
