Notes
a. Note:   r Britt was born in Hemp NC. the family moved away and returned when she was six years old. Artanse went to school in Hemp until Westmore School was built. She was very active and outgoing in school and loved sports-music-school plays and any special events. She and her dear friend Edna Allred were the first female school bus drivers in Moore County NC. She was in the class of 1947 which was the first to graduate twelfth grade so she got to be a senior two years. Artanse and Betty did fun things together and she played the piano at Smyrna Methodist Church where they enjoyed singing together. She always played for Betty to sing. She met and dated Cranford Hussey while he was in the 82 nd Airborn. He is the son of L.M. "Hussie"and Aggie Maness Hussey. Cranford and Artanse bought a large farm in Eagle Springs and operated their own poultry plant in Robbins for several years. Cranford worked for the NC Dept. of Agriculture. They moved from Eagle Springs NC to Arlington VA where they both worked for the US Dept of Agriculture in Washington DC for 25 years. While they lived in Arlington they would come home on weekends to work on their dream home log house. They cut trees for the logs to be treated and gathered stones from the land. When they retired fro USDA in Washington DC they moved back to Eagle Springs. their beautiful log home sits back in the oaks and long leaf pines. It has a huge porch with wicker furniture and her potted nasturtiums blooming. Artanse sat on her porch enjoying the beauty of it all. The green pastures with cattle grazing the pond with geese and the horse racing across the pasture was her dream as she sat in her office in Washington DC looking down SW Independence Avenue. Artanse loved and enjoyed it for a few years she died suddenly 1-28-1999. Artanse was a member of the DAR-UDC-Moore County Genealogical Society and worked on many projects in Moore County. She had just completed a term as president of Methodist Women at Smyrna United Methodist Church where she and Cranford were members.
