Note: Daddy was the first child born to Maria and Stefan after they came to the U.S. He was born in Strawn, Tx. I always thought he was born in 1907, however when I find them in the 1920 census It shows him born in 1906. Daddy told mother that he was never sure when he was born since his mother was always changing the date so that he could get a job. Daddy was the most free hearted person I have ever known. He was one that would give the shirt off his back. He worked so hard on the pipeline. He could drive all the machines. I always thought he could do anything. He helped lay gas lines all over the U.S. & Canada. He went to South America to work for awhile when I was about 6. He was injured on a job and came home early. He also worked in Saudi Arabia. He was in and explosion while he was there. He broke his jawbones in several places. His mouth was wired shut when he came home. Daddy smoked and when I was 8 years old, Mother, Daddy, Gwen, and I were in a truck going home from a job. It was cold and the windows were up and Daddy was smoking. When I told him I could not breathe, he said, " That can't hurt your eyes. I smoke all the time and it does not hurt me." Well, those cigarettes killed him. He had emphysema, had to retire in 1962. He quit smoking in one day. When I would call them up, until the day he died he would say, "Wow's my baby"? I was 44 at the time. During the depression daddy worked as a doorman at the Texas State Fair. He earned $12. a week.
