Notes
a. Note:   We didn't meet him until after our grandfather's death in 1939. He then decided to stay with us in Lockport. I have a telegram he sent my mother Dorothy for one of the holidays so he evidently did keep in touch with her. Buried at Glenwood Cemetery Section 2, Lot 37, Grave #12 Obituary Notice, Lockport, New York Newspaper October 1941 A fractured skull suffered early Friday when his automobile collided with a city street sweeping machine at State Road and Prospect Street resulted in the death of James B. Hutcheson, 33, of 232 Price St. at 8:30 Friday evening in Lockport City Hospital. The body was taken to Kennedy Funeral home, 122 Walnut street. Dr. John P. Crosby, coroner will hold an inquest later. Alvin Blackley 294 Ontario st. operator of the sweeper, and Ray Hyde, 30 Orchard St., who was riding on the front platform suffered slight injuries in the accident. Mr. Hutcheson was born in Lockport, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Hutcheson. He was employed at the Simonds Saw and Steel Company. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. John Piedmonte, Lockport, Mrs. William C. Durant, Detroit, and Mrs. Hugh Stephenson, Huntsville, Ala. The funeral of James B. Hutcheson was held Monday, October 13, 1941 from the Kennedy Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Franklin Elmer officiating. The bearers were Joseph Grea, Moody Raymond, Edward Gardner, James Wyrwosz, William Cashian, Alfred Golden, Thomas Sandusky and William J. Sandusky. Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery. There was an inquest into his death but the city said he was at fault. To this day I find that hard to believe. The city street sweeping mach ine struck the driver's side of the car at the door and crushed it. He didn't hit them, they hit him and killed him. I still have a distrust of city sweepers and try to stay as far away from them as I can. This particular one was running late at night with no lights and I have often wondered what they were doing so late especially knowing they had no lights for the sweeper and cars could not see them. 1920 U S Census - New York - Cattaraugus - Randolph - ED 94 - Image 2 Hutchenson,James Inmate M W 12 NY 1907 Western New York Home (East Randolph Corporation) Have a copy of his death certificate in my files (Fracture of base of skull) Have a copy of his birth certificate in my files.
