Notes
a. Note:   Bio notes: Kate Bixler appears on the 1880 US Federal Census for Cherry Grove Township as being adopted by George Burkholder and Susan Royer Burkholder, his wife and living with them in Cherry Grove Township. Refer to my notes on Mary Ann Gramley for other children apparently adopted out when George Bicksler/Bixler died in 1876. Benjamin Brennen and his wife Mary A. appear on the 1880 US Federal Census for Shannon (town), Carroll County, Illinois living with his stepson John Bixler and two step-daughters (his stepdaughters): Annie age 6 and Blanche age 16. However, Cora Bixler, who was 10 years old, appears on the 1880 US Federal Census for Cherry Grove Township, Carroll County as an adopted daughter of John B. and Catherine Lutz. John B. Lutz's second wife was Martha Amelia Johnston, whose first husband was William Hoy, father to Rosa Hoy, wife of John Bicksler, another child of Mary ann Gramley and George Bicksler (so it's really all family). And Kate Bixler appears as Kate A. Bixler and 3 years old on the 1880 US Federal Census for Cherry Grove Township and the adopted daughter of George Burkholder and his wife Susan (Royer).
