Probably early Spring of year 1863, Nathan and Elizabeth (Phillips) along with eight children, moved from Guernsey County, Ohio, to Cumberland County, Illinois. This move was made in Covered Wagons, traveling on the new National Road or Cumberland Road as it was also known. This information is furnished by a Great Grand Son, James M. Winnett, as Nathan's son David Winnett, related personally to James that when he was two years old, he and his family traveled by covered wagons from Ohio to Illinois, and that upon their arrival in Illinois, his mother, Elizabeth E. (Phillips) Winnett, died of child birth on 14 June 1863, the child lived and was named Bethsheba Winnett. Later his father, Nathan, married Sarah Elizabeth Cline (Mc Mechan, maiden name),her husband, Zephanias L. Cline, having been killed in the Civil War at Joliton, Tennessee,December 1863, she had one child, John Cline. Nathan and Sarah Elizabeth had four children while residing in Union Township, Cumberland County, Illinois. Artimecia Deette, Amelia Arabell, Rosy M., and Nathan Sylvester. For more information see the Genealogy of William and Sarah (Strange) Winnett dated 1965, located at the Greenup and Casey Libraries, the 1968 Cumberland County History Book, and the 1993 History of Cumberland County. Bk 10 p 1224 Mar 1864, Nathan & Elizabeth Winnett, sold property in Range Twp. to George McFarland Winnett and Bathsheba, Nathans brother, apparently moved to Union Township, Cumberland County,Illinois, late 1860 or early 1861 as his father's will stated 1861 that George was was located in Illinois, George may have traveled to Illinois prior to his brother Nathan, and was apparently in Illinois when he bought the property from Nathan.Other information from the Deed Record Book W, Pages 403/404,Guernsey County, Ohio, DAVID PHILLIPS HEIRS TO ISRAEL HAFER, states that Nathan Winnett and his wife Elizabeth Phillips lived in Wright Township, Guernsey County, Ohio. Nathan and Sarah Elizabeth lived the rest of their lives in Union Township,Cumberland County, Illinois, Nathan died about 1893 as a Deed Transfer dated 1894 lists him as deceased, exact date of death is not known. Sarah Elizabeth died 1907 and they are buried in the Cutright Cemetery, Union Township, Cumberland County, Illinois. Nathan's sister, Elizabeth and her son John Robey, are buried next to Nathan and Sarah Elizabeth in the Cutright Cemetery. Elizabeth's husband Middleton Robey 2nd, returned to the State of Ohio and is buried in that State. It should be noted that apparently several different families may have moved with Nathan Winnett to Illinois, the family names are: Robey, Anderson, Burson, and Ward. This is some of the families that came to Illinois at the same time and still all the families are very much present in this area as all were large families and have been very close throughout the years. Another of Nathan's sisters, Rachel Catherine Winnett, married Ezekiel Anderson, Civil War Veteran, who also came to Union Township, Cumberland County, Illinois, and they are all buried in Harmony Cemetery, Greenup, Illinois, along with the Winnett Families. The families listed above have all resided in the Greenup, Casey, Illinois, area, both towns being on the National Road or old Rt.#40, or also known as the Cumberland Road. To further verify that the fore mentioned families that moved to Illinois, were close friends in Guernsey County, Ohio. Middleton Robey 1st,married Mary Burson and Middleton Robey 2nd, married Elizabeth Winnett, a sister to Nathan Winnett. It should be noted that the various families were all farmers, but also had other work that they performed. Nathan Winnett was a constructor of Family Homes, the Robey and Burson families were Plasterer's and added their touch to several homes in the Greenup and Casey Areas. The Anderson family worked in concrete, foundations and sidewalks. One known sidewalk by writer , was the David Winnett home located 2 and 1/2 miles north of Greenup, the sidewalk going up over the hill in the front yard was done by Ezekial Anderson, confirmed by James' Grand Father David Winnett, and James' father Marshall Winnett. James also know of a home in Toledo, Illinois, that Nathan Winnett built. Grandfather David Winnett, stated that Nathan Winnett would go by horse and wagon each Monday Morning to Toledo, stayed and worked on the home all week, slept at the home, returned to his home each Friday Evening for the week end. This home was located on the North East corner of the Railroad Track where it crossed the Highway. Nathan Winnett's, grand-son, Lee Winnett and wife, Isa, resided in this home during the 1940's. It being confirmed at that time that Nathan built the home by his son, David Winnett. From Nathan's home in Union Township to Toledo, Illinois, would be about 15 miles. Nathans children that stayed and lived in this area, a radius of 30 miles were: Mary Elizabeth, Montrose, Ill., Margaret J.,Effingham, Ill., John W., stayed on the home place in Union Township, David, Greenup, Ill., Bethsheba, Vevay Park, Ill.,just southof the home place; Artemicia Deette, Casey, Ill., Amelia Arabelle, Casey, Ill., Rosa M., Union Center, Ill.,and Nathan Sylvester lived Union Township and Charleston, Illinois. All the afore mentioned families were raised from childhood to Adults and many families remain in this area. With many relatives, you don't dare talk about anybody, they are probably relatives. At this time year 2000, James has 10,400 relatives, close and by marriage, on his computer. James & I (Jeff Winnett, writer) knows that from two books, and the latest two generations James don't have anyways near all the relatives that could be listed. This is now Oct 2003 and James has 33,400 persons, both blood and James & I will call it long distance marriage, but they all revert back to us, Jeff Winnett & James Winnett. James and I are half cousins he is thru Nathan & Elizabeth Phillips Winnett and I, Jeff Winnett am thru Nathan and Sarah Elizabeth McMechan Winnett 2nd marriage. Now the third Cumberland County History, 1843 to 1993, has been published. Three books published, years, 1884,1968, and 1993. The year is now Jan 21, 2006, and James has 44, 581 persons. In the July 25 1870 census of Cumberland Co. Union Twp ILL.
