a. Note:   Ruth Lewis said that David went to the Forest City Maine/Forest City, New Brunswick area in the mid-1860's to avoid fighting in the Civil War. He was one of the so called "skedaddlers" who lived in a place called Skedaddle Ridge which ran across the border. When authorities from the U. S. came, they would cross into Canada. After they left, they would come back across the border to Maine.
  Frances (Hanscom) Cowing remembered David as a small man with long chin whiskers and not a tooth in his head. She said that he had a farm in Lakeville where he raised horses. Later on he went to Newport to live with son Fred. She said he died after he hit his head walking into the back of a stair casing.
