a. Note:   Cyrus first settled in Harrison, Maine where he began his lifelong occupation as a blacksmith. In 1820, he is seen residing in Mendon, Ontario County, New York, along with his older brother John. Younger brother, George Hanscom 3rd, (1797-1855) was living in nearby Henrietta, New York the same year. In 1822, Cyrus was living in Fulton, Oswego County, New York, but, by 1830, he was residing in Victor, Ontario County, New York. About 1839 or 1840, Cyrus left New York and moved to Ohio. He lived there for just a brief period before moving on to Shelby, Macomb County, Michigan, where his younger brother George had settled in 1822. Cyrus is seen in Shelby census records for both 1850 and 1860.
