Matthew settled on part of his father's homestead in Scarborough. He was a shoemaker by trade and served many years as sealer of leather. In March 1800, he moved to what was then Litchfield but later became Webster. He was accompanied by his second wife and family and his son-in-law Elias Moody. (The Libby Family in America)
