Notes
a. Note:   Mary may have been a Hughes or possibly a Canaday/Cannaday. These families are close to the Lewises in South Carolina. Caleb Hughes may be Mary LNU Lewis' brother. The plantations of John Rhode and Semer Cobb, husbands of Mary (Hughes?) Lewis Easterling's daughters, Mary Lewis Rhode and Esther Lewis Cobb, neighbored that of Caleb Hughes. Caleb Hughes may have watched over Mary and her children by her first husband, William Lewis, before Mary married John Easterling. Caleb Easterling, who moves to Ohio with the Lewises and Cobbs and becomes the guardian of one of Henry and Eleanor Easterling's daughters, Ann, may have been the child of Mary (Hughes) Lewis Easterling and her second husband, John. Or he may have been a young stepbrother to the Lewis children. Henry Easterling, who married Mary (Hughes) Lewis Easterling's daughter Eleanor, may have been an older stepbrother or possibly a much younger brother of John Easterling's. Some of the Hugheses left with Thomas Lewis, a cousin of Mary Lewis Rhode and Esther Lewis Cobb, and removed to Indiana around 1808.
