Note: Ellis grew up on his father Charles Rhode's farm near Cumberland, Cass Co., Iowa. After graduating from Stanford in 1911, Ellis Rhode taught chemistry and physics and coached athletics at high schools in Montana and Washington State. Later, he became Superintendent of Schools in Menore, Washington, and Supervisor of Adult Education for the Northern California Department of Education. During WWII, Ellis was a civilian training film instructor for the U.S. Army on the Pacific Coast. In 1948, he became an instructor in Audio-Visual Education, San Jose State College. He also had stints as a farmer in Florida and a steamfitter in the Washington State shipyards. Elllis Rhode's hobbies were photography and genealogy, and he researched and wrote the original transcript of the Rhode Family History in 1959.
