a. Note:   wn as a weaver at Palmers Lane. Hew as apprenticed to his parents 29 June 1818, his apprenticeship and that of his brother, James, was transferred to their mother Ann Elkington, of Radford, Coventry, in May 1821 He was elected a freeman in 1826.
 He was buried aged 40, from Spen Street.
  Weaver. All his family, with the exception of John, were occupied in the Silk Industry, which began to collapse after 1840, and did collapse rapidly after 1860.
  Note: the silk industry was well established in Spitalfields (London) and Coventry. The main processes were silk throwing, and silk weaving.
