Note: e was admitted to a school in Coventry. He was apprenticed as "the son of Ann Elkington, widow, one of the Charity children belonging to the Great Meeting School" to William Hohley, Tailor, 11 Mar 1823, and reassigned to William Simmons, Tailor, 29 March 1827. No record of his election as a Freeman has been traced. He moved to Birmingham where he married. There were four children.
