a. Note:   ecorded on the passenger list of the Empire State on 12 September 1856 in the name "Elkington", when James E. is recorded as age 1 1/2. In America they joined James Elkington, who had migrated earlier.
  The information below has enabled her parents and family to be traced in the Tewkesbury Parish Church records, and in the 1851 Census of Tewkesbury. Her brother Anthony was baptised 29 Nov 1846. He later emigrated to America - refer to his notes.
  From correspondence with C. Elkington Setty in April 2009 -
 "Emma was the daughter of Thomas Clarke, a sheepherder. Have no record of her mother. She had a brother Anthony Clarke who settled in Napa County too." ... "I forgot to tell you that Emma Clarke was born Tewekesberry Gloustershire in 1833. This was from her daughter's records".
 "The Sacramento Bee Newspaper had the date of Emma's death wrong. She died 10 Dec 1919 in Napa. (From her death cert.)"
