Notes
a. Note:   Married Rev. James Laurie in Scotland, the day they sailed for America. Her father was the "Earl of Cranstoun" a first cousin to Sir Walter Scott, evidence seems to back this up. One of Sir Walter Scott's friends was George Cranstoun (LordCorehouse). Elizabeth Scott and James Laurie were married at Crailing Hall in Roxburghshire. In early history Crailing Hall seems to have been a farm at Jedburgh, in the Roxburgh area of Scotland. At the time they were married, James Laurie had just completed his theological training in the Secession Hall at Selkirk. Sir Walter Scott was mayor of Selkirk at that time.** This area formerly comprising the counties of Berwickshire, Selkirkshire, Roxburghshire and Peebleshire, was created in 1975 as the Border's region Consult F.R. Banks, The Borders (London: B.T. Batsford, 1977); Charles Alexander Strang, Borders and Berwick: An Illustrated Architectural Guide to the Scottish Borders and Tweed Valley (Edinburgh: The Rutland Press, 1994). Research by Elaine Foster, given to L. Byerley 2005. "The Lay of the Last Minstrel"written by Sir Walter Scott, was destroyed by fire in the British burning of Washington. It had been given to Elizabeth Scott by Sir Walter Scott as a gift. The manuscript burned in the Laurie's Washington D.C. home. Burial in Seceders Cemetery 'Mr. Clark's Lot' St. Clair Clark and George Clark & Father of Matthew St. Clair Clark, first elder of church may be called Old Presbyterian Seceder's Church
