Note: He was named for a good friend of Rev. James Laurie, Joseph Elgar, who was the Commissioner of Public Buildings in Washington D.C. The Rev. Laurie also officiated at the marriage of Joseph's two daughters; Elizabeth Elgar b. 1802 and Margaret Elgar b. August 21, 1805. Joseph Elgar was married to Ann Wright, b. January 25, 1776 in Maryland. Joseph Elgar was born November 21, 1773 and died June 21, 1854. Elizabeth Elgar married Henry Howard b. Abt 1800 married on Feb. 11,1836 by Rev.James Laurie, Henry was a Doctor from Brookeville. Married at "Fair Hill" Maryland. Margaret Elgar was married August 20,1837 by Rev James Laurie to Charles Elhana Sherman b. August 17,1802. Charles was a Lawyer from Mobile, Al.
