WINFIELD SCOTT----2nd cousin twice removed-------------------------------------------- --------------- Born Norfolk Va August 8th 1845 Cadet at V.M.I. from ___1862 to July 1863. Was with Corps when called out by General Jackson spring of 1862, marched to McDowell's West Virginia - Came back to the Valley and when General Jackson went after Banks, we were ordered back to Institute. In December 1863 I joined the Charlottesville Va. battery, under command of James McD Carrington - was with that command in battles of Wilderness & Mine Run spring of 1864, was a private, After the Mine Run battle I was ordered to report to Col T.M.R. Talcott commanding the 1st regiment of Confederate Engineers and was assigned to Company "I" of that regiment as sergeant, remainded with that regiment balance of war - was wounded at High Bridge near Farmville, Va. on the 7th day of April 1865 - but kept on with my command and surrendered with Gen. Lee at Appomattox April 9th 1865.
