Note: A letter from Blair Laurie to Dolly Madison. On June 28, 1844, A. Blair Laurie wrote to Mrs.[Dolly] Madison: "Madam: I am most anxious to obtain one of the situations, in the 1st Comptrollers Office (Treasury Dept.) lately created by Congress and feel assured that a letter from you addressed to Mr. Tyler in my behalf would have great influence in having my wishes gratified. By granting this request, Madam, you would place me under great and lasting obligation. With sincere and high respect, I am your obt. Svt. A. Blair Laurie."
