Note: Isobel Laurie Rittenhouse " was said to be beautiful, with eyes like deep pools of water," from a letter written by Annie Laurie Forder. After her death, her daughters were raised by Rev. James Laurie and his wife, Elizabeth Bell (Shepherd) Laurie. "It was at Dr. Laurie's house in Washington that the original manuscript of the "Lay of the Last Minstrel" by Sir Walter Scott, was burned during a fire there, during the burning of the Capitol by the British in 1812.
