Hannum (Parnie), and Anna M. Crosby. Nettie Studevant Colburn Maynard wrote the book "Was Abraham Lincoln a Spiritualist?" Philadelphia: Rufus C. Hartranft, 1891. This book details visits made by President Lincoln and wife Mary, to the Laurie's Georgetown Home, to attend Spirit Circles. on New Years Eve December 31, 1862...several accounts have Mary Lincoln as a guest of Cranstoun and Margaret Laurie at their Georgetown home. Turner, aged 21, enlisted as a Private on June 7, 1864 in Washington, DC, in Company U, 3rd Infantry RA. He was discharged on December 22, 1864, three days after Mrs. Margaret Laurie wrote a personal letter on his behalf to her friend, President Lincoln.
