Note: Second great-grand nephew of President William Henry Harrison Second cousin, twice removed of President Benjamin Harrison(Pres. Benjamin Harrison's father was Ernest Bailey's 3rd Great-Grandfather). Living in 1930 East Baton Rouge, Louisiana Police Jury Ward 6 1930 U.S. Census Occupation: Car salesman WW1Veteran per 1930 census Burial: Marengo Co., Alabama Note: Ernest grew up in Faunsdale and had a reputation of being somewhat wild. He had a motor bike when he met Hermine (Mimi), his wife. He went to Auburn in 1908. He attended Eastman College 1909-10 (New York Business Institute Poughkepsie, NY). After their marriage they lived in Faunsdale for a while, then moved to LA. Ernest owned and operated several car dealerships one in Demopolis, and had many investments. He lost his money in the crash 30-31. He was depressed and committed suicide in 1932 in Jackson, MS. Ernest Bailey, my cousin, owns an Autograph Book that belonged to our grandfather, Ernest, beginning with about 1908, and it contains many interesting things that tell us a little about his pleasures. He paid $3.00 membership fee to Smith Hall, Sept. 1, 1908, Ala. Polytechnic Institute (Auburn). On Oct. 10, 1908 he attended the Auburn V.S. Gordon football Game and on Nov. 26, 1908 he went on a football excursion from Montgomery to Auburn. Numerous ticket stubs to various plays in New York, Buffalo, NY & even Quebec attest to his love of performances, including PINAFORE the original comic opera at the Casino on Broadway & 89th St. in 1911. He attended the play OFFICER 666, a Comedy on 2 seperate occasions and the FORTUNE HUNTER. There are many train stubs from all over, bridge tallies and many expensive cigar wrappers. He joined Theta Delta Fraternity. His tuition for 5 months at Poughkepsie was $52. 25. .According to a news article in the Demopolis Times, he and Walter Bailey took a trip in 1911 to Mardi Gras in New Orleans; Havana, Cuba; Colon, Panama; and Mexico. He joined the Elks Lodge #681 in Demopolis, AL, April 1, 1913. There is also a news article abt. 1913 that states that Ernest joined the service in Tuscaloosa, and would leave for Fort McPherson, GA.
