a. Note:   Benjamine Howland born 10 Sep 1776 in Beekmantown or in Fishkill, N.Y.; m. first Oct 1 1803 to Catherine Hagerman, b. 17 Mar 1787, d. 19 Feb 1814, leaving a daughter Lavinia Ann. b. 5 Sept 1805, d. 16 Jul 1821. They moved to Poughkeepsi, Duchess County N.Y where he followed his trade as a carpenter for a time, and afterwards kept a store. He married again, this time to Susan Travis, b. 7 May 1797, at Peekskill, N.Y. They continued to reside at Poughkeepsie until the Spring of 1835, when they removed to New York, and settled in what was then known as "Greenwich Village." He died 12 November 1842; she died 22 January 1869. They were members of the Reformed Dutch Church. All children were born in Poughkeepsie except the last two, who were born in New York City.
