a. Note:   George Burt was a tanner by trade. He came to Henry to look over some land owned by a relative in 1845 and started to build a large two story log cabin, then went back for his family. George, his wife and children, John Spencer, George, Clarence E., Elizabeth and Cornelis, came by way of the Hudson River, through the Erie Canal and the great lakes to Chicago. Once there, they rode to Henry in a wagon that had hauled wheat to Chicago. They arrived in May of 1846. He located on a farm near Henry, Marshall county, IL and worked the land until his death, except for one year when he went to Chicago when he worked at his trade. He died 18 Apr 1888 in Henry, IL.
