SIMS, James W., born about 1816, was 5'11 1/2" tall, fair complexion, grey hair, blue eyes. Married 1st Sarah Jane TATUM in Bedford Co., TN before the Civil War. They seem to have had seven children of whom two are listed below: James C SIMS of Jamesville, Stone Co., MO states "we came from Bedford Co., TN when I was a child. James Sims was b c1848. He adds that his stepmother Salina SIMS was a daughter of Bill DAVIS (dead), and I knew her former husband John T. DAVIS and he died as I learned. Henry C. SIMS born c1844 of Jamesville, Stone Co., MO stated his father and mother were married in Bedford Co., TN that she was Sarah Jane TATUM who died in Stone Co., MO in the spring of 1862. Henry adds that he was in school with John DOBBS, second husband of Salina SIMS and that he knew Salina before she was ever married or grown up. James W. SIMS married second: Lucinda (GALLOWAY), widow of David L. WOODY in 1864-65. This marriage was dissolved by divorce on 27 Feb 187?. There were five children of this marriage . (Stone Co., MO) One was Will SIMS of Springfi eld, MO; another was George SIMS, an ex-sheriff of Green County. She lived in Springfield under the name of Lucinda SIMS (several affidavits on file.) James W. SIMS married 3rd: Rosa COX, who was in her teens. She had a brother William C. COX. Rosa died of consumption and is buried at Ponce de Leon, IN Oct 1882. James W. SIMS married 4th: Salina DAVIS at Highlandville, Christian Co., MO on 18 Jan 1884? by Reb. Samuels. (License issued at Ozark, Christian Co., on 16 Jan 1885 at Ozark and is on file at Archives) Two children: Oscar SIMS and Mary Jane SIMS. We got the following information from Bert Paredes (email bert@@paredes.net) whose wife is a great-granddaughter of James'. "I noticed the Choate name mentioned in the papers on your site. We got an odd story from Junior and Anna Mae SIMS (both are descendants of James W. and Anna Mae is Postmaster of Ponce de Leon) that one day James W. SIMS was returning from his field north of Ponce de Leon, met a Mr. Choate in town and stabbed him in the chest with a potato fork. Also: The State VS James W. Sims; Felonious Assault. State Witnesses: Mary E. Woody and Elizabeth Yoachum (Sister of Lucinda Galloway Woody Sims). Filed 04 Oct 1876-- "The grand jurors for the State of Missouri summoned from the body of Stone County impaneled, charged, and sworn to inquire upon their oaths within and for the body of said Stone County aforesaid present that James W. Sims late of the said State and County did at the said State and County on the 27 day of September AD 1876 unlawfully, willfully , and feloniously with a certain stalk of Sorghum cane of the width and thickness at the butt end of one inch and the length of eight feet which said stalk of cane was then and there a deadly weapon and likely to produce great bodily harm and was a weapon likely to produce death make an ass ault in and upon the body of Mary E. Woody and did then and there with the said stalk of cane unlaw fully, willfully and feloniously strike, beat and wound her the said Mary E. Woody with the intent on the part of the said James W . Sims to kill the said Mary E. Woody contrary to the form of the statutes." Bert notes that Mary E. Woody was the daughter of Lucinda Galloway Woody SIMS and the first wife of James C. SIMS, son of James W.
