Note: John W. B. Bailey joined Company G, 61st Alabama Infantry Regiment on 17 July 1863 with his father. He was apparently either wounded or ill because the records of his Civil War service reflect that he was in the General Hospital, Howard's Grove, Richmond, Virginia from 22 June 1864 and the Receiving and Wayside Hospital, or General Hospital No. 9, Richmond, Virginia, almost continuously through March 1865. On 3 April 1865 he was admitted to the C.S.A. General Hospital in Farmville, Virginia for "vul sclop" (gunshot wound) and on 6 April transferred to Danville, Virginia.
