Note: William D. Little was born in South Carolina and his first wife was Harriet B. Sheffield. They produced three sons all born in Tennesse. It is assumed that Harriet died and then William remarried. He was a Church of Christ Minister when he married his second wife, Amanda C. Nelson. The couple along with William's three sons moved to Texas from Marshall Co. Tenn. in 1846.(1) However, the new testament bible he was given before leaving his church in Tenn. was presented to him on the 4th Saturday of March in 1847. It is the belief by some that the family left for Texas because of land grants. Andrew M. Nelson, brother to Amanda, died in Texas on March 6, 1836 during the battle at the Alamo. He was granted land postumously and his relatives, specifically, his sister are listed as being granted property. William Daniel Little moved with his second wife and family from Marshall County, Tennessee to Rusk County, Texas. He died at Mt. Enterprise, Texas in a post-war riot on the Fourth of July 1866. He is buried in the Swain Cemetery near Minden, Rusk County, Texas. William is a descendant of Capt. Daniel Little, a founder of Salisbury, North Carolina. William's parents were John Paul Little and Nancy Hogan. Amand'a parents were John Nelson and Elizabeth Mansfield. LITTLE, William Daniel 9/22/1808-7/4/1866; s/o John Poney Little Wives: 1.
