a. Note:   According to Pauline Stowell Greenwood, granddaughter of Homer, he was at one time sheriff of Lake County, Indiana. His obit in the June 2, 1932 issue of the Lowell Tribune was as follows: "Homer J. Stowell was born May 18, 1852 near Hebron, Porter County, Indiana and passed away at his home in Lowell May 25, 1932, having just passed his 80th birthday. His boyhood was spent in and around Lowell, having come here with his parents when he was only 10 years of age. February 22, 1875 (initially reported Feb. 17) he was united in marriage to Emily Hayhurst. To this union four children were born: Nora May, who died Dec 15, 1913; Clifford, of Topeka, KS; Frank, of Chicago, and Ruby of Kankakee, Illinois. In 1892 he united with the Christian church of Lowell, nder the pastorate of Reb. Brister. He is survived by his widow and three children, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, Hattie of Hardman, Oregon, and a host of friends. Funeral Services were held at the Christian church Thursday (June 2), J. E. Poer, Minster conducted the services. Mrs. Melvin Robinsin and Mrs. John Einspahr, with Miss Georgia Poer accompanist, furnished the music. The following acted as pall bearers: A. H. Maxwell, Ed. Yates, C. F. Dickinson, Thomas Grubb, John Hayhurst, James Black. Interment was in Lowell Cemetery in charge of Weaver and Son. Those attend the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Stowell, Topeka, KS; Mr. & Mrs. Frank Stowell, Mr. and Mrs. Millard Stowell, and son, of Chicago; Mrs. Ellen Stowell and son Peter, Mrs. Grace Witt, Mrs. Beth Whalen of Chicago Heights, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Hardigan of blue Island, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hayhurst of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Pemble and daughters, of Kankakee, Illinois
