Tucker and his wife Henrietta(should have read Fredericka, Anton's wife's sister) for "one dollar and other valuable considerations." Schomberg is near Balingen in Germany Raised Roman Catholic Mother died before father - father made coffin, had shop downstairs in house. Father died later leaving children orphans. Children went to live with an uncle for a short time. Father had two brothers in France - one in Paris was either an artist or a jeweler. Anton left Germany, sailed from Bremon on Steamship Eider, arrived at Ellis Island, NY on 3/15/1887 at age of 16 with one piece of luggage. Brother, Frank Xaviar,(born 8Mar1868) came to US five years before(application to come to US approved 26Nov1882). Sister Bertha never married and remained in Germany. Anton boarded in a house owned by a widow, Mrs. Heydt in upper 80's or 90's in Manhatten. Anton became US citizen 8Sep1892. Certificate issued by Common Pleas Court New York County. His address was shown as 626 8th Ave NYC(betwwen 40th & 41st St) Occupation-Tinsmith Born 10May1870-Germany; Date of Arrival 15Mar1887. Sponsor Wendelin Bernhard, 52 Washington Street(now 20th St),West Hoboken, NJ.(Wendelin Bernhard's son later married Helen Feirer). Anton and Katherine met at Klein's Bakery(owned by Wennie's(RIN 143) grandfather) in Manhatten. Married by Rev. Wiliam Busse at St Lukes Lutheran Church, 42nd St just off 7th 7th Ave.,Manhatten. Church later moved to 44th St and then to 308 W 46th St. Church marriage record shows Anton Feirer,349 W 36th St(between 8th & 9th Ave) born Schomberg,Wurtenberg; Catharina Hofmann,267 W 37th St(corner of 8th Ave) born Ziegelbrum,Wurtenberg. Witnesses Heinrich Hofmann and Johann Kugler. After marriage, lived on 8th or 9th Ave in 30's. Daughter Bertha. born in New York and baptized at St.Lukes. Sponsors Frank Feirer and Henrietta Hofmann. Moved to New Jersey 1897 or 1898 probably as a result of Wendelin Bernhard already living there. Continued to work in NY. At various times worked as tinsmith and baker. Walked from West Hoboken to Hoboken to take ferry(fare 3 cents) to NY. Walked additional 1/2 hour from ferry to work to arrive at 7AM Lived in six family house at 148 Weehawken St(19th St) east of Palisades Ave in WestHoboken where Helen was born 14Apr 1900.(St Matthew's records show born 14Apr1900,baptized 14Apr1901,parents Anton Feirer and Katherine Hofmann,sponsors John Hofmann and Maria Hofmann, address 320 Spring St.). Moved to another 6 family cold water flat at 514 Union St(18th St) or 514 Smith St(17th St) where Anthony Frank(Tony) was born. Moved back to 168 Weehawken St. Bought house and moved to 511 Highpoint Ave(22nd St). Deed dated 2May1907. The house was originally a one story bungalow. Later a second floor was added. Still later the entire building was raised to build the plumbing shop underneith. Later yet, the cellar was blasted from solid rock. Anton started own plumbing business in 1901 in West Hoboken after attending trade school at night. Son, Tony, later joined business at age 15 after completing 8th or 9th grade. Eventually, Tony became a partner.(A.Feirer&Son). In 1910 or 1911 building at 511 Highpoint Ave was raised to put plumbing shop underneith. Shed behind house at back of property was used as a stable for horse. In 1928 purchased a Ford Model A pickup truck for business. Kept truck in use until 1946. Anton was a member of the North Hudson Master Plumbers Association and the Cosmopolitan Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Anton purchased house at 513 Highpoint Ave. Helen & Wennie moved there about 5 years after their marriage. The Feirer house was the real center of the family. It was not unusual for there to be 20-25 guests for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Pop(Anton) would always buy a keg of cider for Thanksgiving and store it in the back shed. The grandchildren always enjoyed syphoning pitchers-full from the keg. The keg would be sufficient for Thanksgiving and Christmas and then be used for cider vinegar. In Sep 1945, Anton & Katherine celebrated their 50th Anniversary by holding a party for all their family and friends in a hall they hired at West Street and 22nd Street in Union City.
