Was always understanding of other people. Because of her gentleness she was sometimes pushed around and taken advantage of by other people. Would often say "life is short, we shouldn't fight". Married at home by Rev. George J. Steinert, pastor St Matthews Luth Church of West Hoboken. Witnesses- Theodore Elsasser, best man and Olga Rathman, maid of honor. Wedding supper was held in plumbing shop. About 90 guests. According to Newspaper account, Wennie was from Hoboken. "At midnight, the young couple left for an extended honeymoon through the south, visiting Washington and several other cities of interest". Helen was employed as a bookeeper by Schwarzenbach-Huber Company prior to marriage. Raymond: "Helen was a meek and mild, go-along-with-the-tide type of person. She worked hard. When Wennie wasn't working, she'd go accross the street to the factory and get ties to press. Bert and Nana would help. They'd get 2-3 cents per tie. They'd also get cloth belts to turn inside out and press. "Helen was a perseverer; she was just a hard worker; she was always very nice; she was always nice to me; I got along with her fairly well." Helen was always an excellent baker of cakes and pies. At Christmas, she would always have a vast array of cookies.
