a. Note:   Born: 86 Hackensack Plank Road, Weehawken,NJ first child of Domenic Noseda and Anna Maria Habicht. Birth Certificate shows father born in Italy and occupation a cement worker. Parents had come to U.S. with one of Anna's children of a previous marriage, sister Dorley. Other older children had stayed in Switzerland. Family returned to Switzerland when Ernst was two years old,
 due to father's health.
  Small Bible given at Confirmation is dated 13Apr1924 in Switzerland.
 Ernest left home and went to France at seventeen to avoid compulsory military training. When he left home he was suppossedly given $10,000 as his inheritance. He was not happy when his mother died and he received a minimal inheritance.
  In France he learned a trade as a mason and a carpenter. He was unable to find work because he said he would not pay off the employers. In 1927 he returned to Switzerland to prepare for emmigration to U.S. Being a U.S. citizen he was able to obtain a U.S. passport from the U.S. Consulate in Zurich dated 28May1927 valid for four months. He apparently left for the U.S. shortly thereafter. The passport is stamped at Cherbourg, France on 27Jul1927. He was made fun of because he could not speak English even though he was an American citizen. Family members recall him telling that he spent some time on "The Bowery" in New York City.
 He once told a story of buying a whole bunch of bananas which were very expensive in Switzerland. He got sick eating the whole bunch.
  In 1929, he became one of the first employees of Consolidated Bleachery on Hackensack Plank Road, Union City which later moved to North Bergen. During this time he was also a partner in a tavern located accross Hackensack Plank Road from the bleachery. He worked at Consolidated as a foreman until the company retired him in 1973.

  Returned to Switzerland with wife, Anna, on honeymoon in 1930. They returned again in 1939 with Doris. After marriage to Anna, they lived at 121 Leonard Street in Jersey City in a two family house. The other apartment was occupied by Anna's mother, Caroline, who owned the house. Doris remembers her grandmother.
  Marital discord resulted in legal separation. In a legal custody battle for Doris, the court awarded custody to the husband. Anna Johnson committed suicide in September 1942.
  June remembers Ernst getting invoice from Switzerland for military tax. She also remembers him receiving a letter from a girl in Switzerland claiming he fathered her child although he had been in the U.S. when child was conceived.
  After marriage to June in 1943, lived in an apartment on 79th Street in North Bergen opposite Hudson County Park. June 8, 1943, moved to 8211 First Avenue North Bergen. In June 1944 moved to 597 Gregory Av., Weehawken until Aug 1945, when they moved to 75th St, North Bergen. Purchased house at 169 Sylvan Ave., Leonia in Summer 1950. Stayed there until house sold to Warren & Doris in June,1957. Ernie could not climb stairs due to a heart attack and there was no toilet on the first floor. Purchased a two family house at 445 Teaneck Rd.,
 Ridgefield Park where they lived on the first floor.
  On Good Friday, 1949, he had an automobile accident on Boulevard East, West New York. He was driving home from Consolidated. He last remembered passing 61st Street. He apparently blacked out, hit another car at 66th Street, fell from the car to the center of the roadway. The empty car ran into an apartment building and was totally demolished. He was taken to North Hudson Hospital. June signed him out of North Hudson and he was taken to Christ Hospital where he was kept for the rest of the weekend. He never drove again.
  Had his first heart attack in 1950, two weeks after moving to Leonia(June 28th). He had helped a friend build a garage. Gave up smoking but eventually went back to it after about six months. Two years later had a second heart attack and gave up smoking for good after seeing a man in the next hospital bed die from lung cancer. For many years had serious problems with lack of blood circulation in legs. Had blocked veins removed at Christ Hospital, Jersey City. Had gall bladder removed while living in Ridgefield Park. Had sold Leonia house to Warren & Doris in 1957 in order to purchase the Ridgefield Park house with living arrangements all on one floor.
  Had a great love for children. June recalls she could not keep ice cream in her freezer; he would give it to all the neighborhood children. At family get togethers, he always offered the children more milk saying that he had a cow in the neighbor's garage.
  Could not wait to have grandchildren. He loved them and spoiled them terribly and they all loved him. An annual family highlight was always the Ridgefield Park 4th of July parade and a family cookout at the house afterward. In the evening was always the fireworks in the park.
  Died of prostate cancer at Christ Hospital, Jersey City. Cremated, remains buried in Weehawken Cemetery, North Bergen, NJ.
