The horse stumbled over some Belgian blocks which were allowed by the Union Township authorities to be left upon the road, and upsetting the wagon, threw Mr. Engle out. His collar bone was broken. The wagon passed over him, breaking three ribs. Mr. Engle was one of the family from which the town of Englewood derived its name." J M VanValen History of Bergen County NJ - Andrew S. Engle was one of nineteen members who left the New Durham Baptist Church 1n 1848 to establish an independent Baptist Church to be called the First Baptist Church at English Neighborhood. Services were first held in private houses until 1864 when the membership increased and a church edifice deemed necessary. In the fall of 1864 a church was erected at a cost of two thousand dollars. It was a small wooden structure, twenty-four by thirty-five feet in the centre of the village. The five member building committee included Andrew S. Engle. Mr Engle had also been one of the first trustees when the church was organized. The church was disbanded in 1880.
