In the 1870 Census John F. Smith, age 9, born OH, is living with James and Nancy, also in the household is Ella M. Johnson, age 8, born IN. In the 1880 Census James parents' birthplaces are listed as VA. In the 1890 Census James Hook, age 12, born IN, is living with James and Nancy, he is listed as a servant. Also living in the household is Ella Johnson, age 18, born IN, also listed as a servant.
