Note: Obituary for James Madison Gish: James M. Gish was born in Cass county, IN, June 3, 1853. The trials and cares, the joys and sorrows of life having terminated, he entered the haven of rest April 17, 1898, being 44 years, 10 months and 14 days old. The deceased removed from his native state with his parents to LeSueur county, MN in 1858. In 1883 he again with his parents removed to Morrison county, MN where he has been engaged upon all the activities and duties, sharing the perplexities and disappointments incident to life. The deceased was single. His parents together with three brothers and five sisters and a host of friends bade farewell to the dear one, whose precious remains speak in silent accents, bidding them turn from the painful sorrow to the Father, and with filial obedience administer to their wants in their declining years. He became a Christian and was baptized into the Episcopal church in 1875, since which time he has been a follower of Him who said: "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Through Him he conquered in life, triumphed in death and with Him his victory is now complete. The funeral was attended by a large circle of friends, who followed the remains to the DeMoss cemetery where they were laid to rest. Rev. A. A. Joss of the Episcopal church in Little Falls, conducted the funeral service."
