According to Anna May Brown: Clark was older when he got married (as well as older mentally) and didn't interact with his children a lot; he didn't play ball or that sort of things with the boys. He often sat by the stove and chewed tobacco or made his own cigarettes. He was quiet and tended to drink a lot so you couldn't always count on him. Clark worked for the paper mill for a while and later, the WPA. When he was older, about 70, his son (the minister) got him a job working as a janitor which he continued until he died. He didn't have a car so he took a cab to work.
