Children are; Sarah F. age 7, born in Indiana, James M. age 2, born in New York, and Edwin A. age 1, born in New York. According to James M. Gary's marriage record in Washington Co. Nebraska January 6, 1883 and his death record in Grand Traverse Co. Michigan September 28, 1928 he was born in Indiana. His death record specificly states Fremont, Indiana. Other Geary/Garys living in Steuben Co. Justus and Jane Gary were in Decatur, Burt Co. Nebraska in the 1880 census with children Cora, Delcina, and Justus L. Family history says that Justus Gary worked on the railroad that was being built through Nebraska during the 1880s. His daughter Jenny Nelly helped cook for the railroad crew. In the 1900 census of Falls City, Richardson Co. Nebraska, James M. Geary is head also listed is wife Ella, children Minnie, Eva, Delbert, Nellie, Earl and Irvin, father James W. Geary age 76 born March 1824 in New York, widow (Justus W. appears to be listed as James W. in this census) James M. sister Alice McShane, age 27, born Illinois, widow, with her children, Robert and Flossie both born in Iowa. J.W. Gary is first recorded selling land in Steuben Co. Indiana on October 4, 1853, on which date he sold land in section 27 township 38 range 14 to J.P. Pettibone. Township 38-14 is the town of Fremont. Other Garys are in the area Loren Gary and David Gary owned land in Clear Lake township in 1849 and 1850. Loren purchased section 19 township 38 range 15 on January 1, 1849 and section 30 township 38 range 15 on July 1, 1850. David Gary purchased section 19 township 38 range 15 on December 5, 1849. The last record of J.W. Gary selling land is on September 9, 1861 to Geo. W. Brockway section 26 township 38 range 13. 38-13 is in Jamestown Township. Supposedly Justus Gary went to live with his daughter, Jenny Nelly Jolly in Moscow, Idaho for a little while. Justus and his daughter's husband, Jasper Jolly didn't get along so Justus saved up money from odd jobs and without telling anyone packed up and moved to Indiana. Jenny was worried about him and finally heard from some family that he had moved to Indiana. Supposedly Justus died in Indiana sometime after 1900. Justus Gary's ancestry is very sketchy. It appears that he moved quite a bit, and there is a lot of conflicting information on his birth location, marriage location, etc. One possible clue is that his son James Morris Gary named a son Earl Francis. In Steuben Co. Indiana there lived a Lorin Francis Gary. Lorin could possibly be the father or even a sibling of Justus Gary. Lorin was born about 1805 in New York and his wife Sally was born about 1855 in Vermont. Affidavit from J.W. Gary and Jane Gary on 7-17-1893 in Richardson Co, NB (for Ella Gary's application for Oren's pension) "they are 68 years and 61 years of age respectively that we both lived at Fremont Indiana from about the year of 1858 to 1868. That Oren Taylor lived there when he enlisted in the army. We were well acquainted with Amanda Tillison [sic] who afterwards married Oren Taylor, she lived at Fremont, Ind. while we lived there. At the time of their marriage affiants were living at Freeport, Ill, but they kept up their acquaintance with Oren Taylor and Amanda Tillison [sic] and have kept up the acquaintance with the family until this time. We now reside at Falls City Neb. As we were well acquainted with Oren Taylor and Amanda Tillison [sic] before their marriage we can swear that neither of them had been previously married." There was an affidavit with the above statement from E. J. Holdbrook as follows: Falls City, Nebr. Jan 5, 1894, Dear Sir, John Gary and Jane Gary have not lived here very long. They are very poor and shiftless and their reputation is not good, it is hard to tell how such people stand for truth, but I should judge not very good. Yours respectfully, E. J. Holdbrook
