 (50) A History of the Malone Family, by Hulda Malone Anderson, date unknown. 79 pgs. [bracketed notations inserted during transcription of original document by the transcriber, M. Zimmerman] Page 5. Father’s brother, Uncle Ed [Lenis Edgar Malone (1864-1923)], lived with them for a while, but he soon claimed a homestead about a mile away. Our two families lived near each other all our childhood.
Page 11. An accident, which might have been a great tragedy, occurred one day while straw was being drawn up to the loft from the hay wagon. My Uncle Ed [Lenis Edgar Malone (1864-1923)] was at the edge of the loft, helping to guide the load of straw from the wagon as it was being pulled in, when a pulley gave way. He slipped and fell about thirty feet to the ground and landed on his head. Luckily, there was soft straw on the ground. He came out of the fall with only a slight concussion and some cuts and scratches and bleeding, but no broken bones.
