Notes
a. Note:   E CENSUS RECORDS HIS LAST NAME IS SPELLED DERICK. THIS WAS USED BY A GRANDSON OF HIS NAMED ESAU DERICK. I AM NOT SURE HOW THE SPELLING GOT CHANGED BUT MY GRANDPA WAS JOHN CASWELL DERRICK, SON OF WILLIAM D DERICK AND GRANDSON OF ANDREW. GRANDPA SPELLED HIS NAME, DERRICK, AND SO DID ALL OF HIS SONS. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AN ERROR OF THE CENSUS RECORDER. ANDREW WAS BAPTIZED IN THE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN LEXINGTON SC BUT HE ATTENDED THE METHODIST CHURCH WHEN HE CAME TO GA. ANDREW SETTLED IN HENRY COUNTY, GA AT HAMPTON, THIS WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED "BEAR CREEK". THERE WERE NOT ANY LUTHERAN CHURCHES IN HAMPTON AT THAT TIME. HE WAS A VETERAN OF THE WAR OF 1812 AND SERVED IN CAPT. AMOS BANKS COMPANY. PRIOR TO 1830 THE COUPLE MOVED TO HENRY COUNTY GA. THE VETERANS PENSION RECORDS OF THE "WAR OF 1812" LIST ANDREW AS HAVING DIED 01-17-1871 IN CAMPBELL COUNTY. THE GRAVE OF HIS WIFE CATHERINE KLECKLEY DERRICK IS AT UNION CHRISTIAN CHRUCH CEMETARY, UNION RD., OFF BUTNER RD., S FULTON CTY., COLLEGE PARK GA. UNION WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1881 AND SINCE ANDREW DIED IN 1871, 10 YEARS BEFORE THE CHURCH WAS FOUNDED IS BURIED ELSEWHERE. WE ARE IN SEARCH OF CHURCHES FOUNDED AT THAT TIME AND POSSIBLE CEMETARIES THAT EXIST NOW THAT HE MIGHT POSSIBLY BE BURIED AT. Andrew was 5ft. 10in. tall, gray eyes, fair complexion weight 150lbs. this is stated in pension applciation papers of Catherine made Aug 9 1879. Pension rights granted 9 March 1878 by act of US Congress, Served under Capt. Amos Banks-SC Militia and states that Andrew died 17 Jan 1871. Also states from papers issued 20 Jan 1851 that Andrew Derick was in from 21 Sept. 1813 to 39 Oct 1813. 40acres land applied for 1851 Vol 50 page 22 Act of Mar 1855 Andrew Derick received 190 acres land. April 14, 1855 Aug. 2, 2001 It is recorded in a Henry County Deeds Record Book "M" 1835-1851 page 445 "Henry County January 23, 1850. Burwell Ragland & William B Turner of Henry County sold to Andrew Derrick, William Ray & Thomas Adams, as members of the Methodist Protestant Church & Trustees for the Harmony Church, for the sum of $3.00, 3/4 acre of land beginning at a rock corner east of the church lot and running 39 yards along the fence south to the original line. Wit: Sanford Moore, S. P. Campbell, Christopher W Higgins. Recorded July 19, 1851. Recorded in the History of Clayton County, under the name of Turnipseed-Page 516 - Among others who accompanied the Turnipseeds to Ga. or who arrived shortly before them, from SC were the brothers, John & Henry Nipper, the Lindlers, and, it is presumed, Andrew Derrick, whose family was much associated with the Turnipseeds in SC, and whose kinswoman, Dorothy Derrick, became the wife of Samuel Turnipseed of Richland Dist, SC and Montogmery Co., Ala. Andrew Derrick was also related to Rev. David Derrick, one of the most prominent ministers in the Methodist Episcopal Church in SC. (A son of Andrew married a dau of Pittman Wesley of Hampton, Henry Co. and they were the parents of Wesley Derrick, who was the gr father of the late Mrs. Fred LeGuin Mary Grace Fields Leguin, of Hampton. On this information I will begin a search for the burial place of Andrew-under the Methodist Protestant Church & see if I can find either Harmony Church or what it is now. Will call Henry Cty., Historical Society. SDH Nov. 2001 Andrew served in the war 1812. Pension records from Andrew contain the following: Andrew is fair complexion, gray eyes, dark hair and 5ft. 10In. tall. Andrew and Catherine moved around during the last years of Andrew's life. They have PO Boxes in Griffin, GA, Fairburn,Campbell Cty., GA and last in East Point, Fulton Cty., GA. Why did Andrew & Catherine move so often? A g g grand dau., Martha Frances Gay-said the original house burned. Did thy move after that? Did he sell his land to his son James Wyatt who remained on the land or did he just deed it to him? March 2002 Found that Andrew had a daughter Sabrina that died in 1869 and is buried in Henry County. If we can find Sabrina Derrick Eidson we can find Andrew. I believe he is buried with her as they died only two years apart. SHIRLEY HOLLAND, GRANDAUGHTER OF JOHN CASWELL DERRICK 1997 ALSO FROM THE DERRICK FAMILY BOOK BY CHARLES DERRICK Updated 2002
Note:   THIS INFORMATION TAKEN FROM 1850 CENSUS RECORDS. ANDREW WAS 57 YEARS OLD AT THIS TIME. ON TH
