Note: 1901 census carpenter & joiner Extract from a newspaper 'The Free Press' 23 Nov 1917 Joseph Thursfield J.P. died 16 Nov 1917 Friday age 55years Carpenter of 25 Alfred Street Wes t Brom - worked for Joseph Breedon & Co. New Mills Works Fazeley Street, Birmingham. He ha d a keen interest in the Labour movement for several years was secretary of the local Carpent ers & Joiners Society and ontwo occasions he fought for a seat on the Town Council. 1st tim e against Councillor Hartland and the other against the late Counc. Newman, both unsuccessful . J.P. in 1906. Connected with Mayers Green Congregational Church all his life. Inquest hel d Tuesday pm. Evidence was given by his son Harold. On the 22ndultimo he returned from work , said he had a splinter in his hand. James Cuthbert his workmate saw him doing something t o his hand while they were moving partitions. He died of diabetes.
