Note: Clayton's Lineage 1. John Dann (b. c1615/1620; d. 7/10/1678) and Mary
2. Francis Dann (b. c1659; d. 3/19/1723) and Elizabeth Clason (b. 1666; d. 2/10/1740), lived in Stamford, CT. Elizabeth's mother (also named Elizabeth, of Stamford, CT) was tried on witch charges and she was found not guilty. Almost all of the community attested to her rightousness and goodness; her son-in-law was one of the few who would not sign the petiton stating she could not be a witch.
3. John Dann (b. 1691) and Deborah Green ( b. 4/25/1701)
4. Francis Dann ( b. 5/30/1727) and Mary Brown (b. 1/28/1731/32 or 3/15/1729/39)
5. Jonathan Dann (b. 3/7/1752) and Rachel
6. Seth Dann (b. 12/8/1773; d. 5/18/1854) and Jane Munger (b. 12/25/1779; d. 4/9/1858)
7. Philip and Mary Dann, moved to Union Twp. from Troy, Bradford County, PA. In the fall of 1840, Philip and son, Alpheus took up a homestead in Union Twp. In the spring of 1841 the rest of the family came. In 1848 they built a barn and in 1854 they replaced their log cabin with a frame house. In 1873, the house burned.
8. Alpheus Edgar Dann (b. 3/11/1828), married, September 12, 1850, Margaret Barker (b. 9/21/1834), daughter of Ambrose Barker who died in Mt. Pleasant, Henry Co., IA in 1888 and Mary Ann Terry who died December 15, 1891 in Mt. Pleasant, IA. They had five children; Clayton, Mary E., Anna, Ambrose M., and Cassius A. Alpheus enlisted in the Civil War in 1864, Co. F 12th N.Y. Calv. and died in 1865 in the general hospital at Elmira, NY, from pneumonia. Margaret and her father, Ambrose Barker, rebuilt the house after it burned. Margaret lost her 12 year old son, Cassius, in the fire.
9. Clayton Alpheus Dann
Clayton Alpheus's sister, Anna, was first wife to Wesley Barrow, of Union Twp. She died in 1876; their children - Maggie, Ray, and Guy.
The Eugene Whitehead Dann who appears in Robert Stratton's brother's line (David Stratton) and Clayton were cousins. Their paternal grandparents being Philip and Mary Dann.
