Note: Arthur's parents, William L. Thomas and Rose/Rosetta Williams were born in Wales. William served as a private in Co C 20th Rgt. PA Vol from June to August of 1863. He became deaf from the Civil War. William died Sept. 16, 1907, Uniondale, PA. Rosetta died near Johnstown, PA in June, 1931, and was buried there. Arthur was a miner and in later years owned the Thomas Restaurant in Canton, Bradford County, PA. Arthur had a brother, Fred, and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Richardson, who lived in Ehrenfeld, PA, MI, and De. Arthur developed "black lung" from being a miner. He moved from Arnot, (a mining town) Tioga County, to Canton in 1914. 1918 - Sept. 12 - Bradford Co. - World War 1 Draft Registration Card: Arthur Thomas of Canton; age 39, born Aug. 20, 1889; merchant in Canton; nearest relative - Lillian Thomas of Canton; medium height and medium build; gray eyes and brown hair 1946 - Oct. 26 - Canton Sentinel - Arthur Thomas aged 68 years of Canton passed away at Blossburg hospital, Saturday, October 26, 1946. He is survived by two daughters; Laura Smouther and Lillian Watkins, both of Canton, and a son, Herbert Thomas of Elmira; a sister, Mrs. Jane Richardson of Wyandotte, MI. The funeral was held at the home Tuesday with burial in in the Ogdensburg Cemetery. Rev. L. A. Guiles officiated.
