Receives Word of Soldier's Death
Pfc. Gordon J. Watkins Killed in French Invasion
Mrs. Gorden Watkins received word Tuesday evening that her husband, Pfc. Gordon J. Watkins, had been killed in action in France, August 3. Pfc. Watkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Watkins, Morris Run, had lived in Morris Run until coming to Canton five years ago. He was a graduate of Morris Run High School and for several years was employed in the Morris Run mines. At the time of entering service he was a fireman on the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was trained in infantry tactics at Camp Chaffee, Ark., after his induction into the army on October 23, 1943.
