Note: Is Richard a son of Maskil or a brother? Richard bought 53 acres in Catawissa Twp. for $350 on April 12, 1825 from Jacob and Hannah (sister to Maskil's wife) (deed book 5, page 151 - Columbia Co. Court) Yocum of Catawissa Twp.. This property adjoined lands of Richard Mears or Means. This property was the same that was conveyed to Jacob Yocum by Mary Williams dated May 25, 1818. Richard died and letters of administration went to Evan Evans, brother of his wife (Vol 1, page 249 - Columbia Co. Court). Evan had the court sell the property to settle the estate's debts. It was sold to Martin Smith who failed to keep the mortage payments current so then on Nov. 4, 1830, it was sold to David Phillips of Pottsville. Mr. Phillips then sold it to William Stratton of Pottsville, teamster, on April 17, 1831, who also failed to keep up on the mortgage payments.
