Note: "Janie", recorded in WFT, Vol. 18 #1864, died during childbirth. Her son, William J., called Billy; In her father's will, her son was called Willey. Janie's brother, Freeman Neal, married a sister of her husband' s - Lydia Schmelzle.
1881 - Jan. 11 - "Wellsboro Agitator":
died at Blossburg, Jan. 5, 1881, Mary J., wife of Mr. George Smeltzy, aged 23 years.
Mary Jane was buried in Union Cemetery, Liberty Twp.
George Schmelzle's name was either George John or John George. According to a grandson (Oliver Schmelzle's son), George turned over his and Janie's son to Janie's parents after she died. George then remarried and had Oliver and Maynard and the four girls. George was a son of Jacob Schmelzle and Mary Zinck.
