Watkins, George W., age 85 of Dubois St. Elmira, died Saturday, January 5, 1997, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility following a lengthy illness. George was born on April 20, 1911, in Arnot, PA, the son of the late Edward and Catherine Wilcox Watkins. He married Dorothy E. Neal in 1942 in Williamsport, PA. He was employed by the Remington-Rand until their closing, after which he worked as a tool and die maker for Elmira Stamping until his retirement in 1974. George was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. From an early age, he spent many hours repairing radios as a hobby. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Watkins along with his brothers, Frank Watkins of Vestal, NY(d. 3/18/2001), and Andrew Watkins of Elmira; a sister, Alice Sillman of Blossburg, PA; several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the Ballard and Lindgren Funeral Home, 161 Oakwood Ave, Elmira Heights, on Tuesday, January 7, 1997 from noon til 1 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the conclusion of calling hours (1 P.M), with the Rev. Cathy S. Black, Officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Liberty, PA.
